About Tay Iwar
Austin Iornongu Iwar (born June 9, 1997), professionally known by his stage name Tay Iwar , is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, audio engineer and record producer. He won Choice Producer at 2014 Nigerian Teen Choice Award and Choice Male Artist at 2015 Nigerian Teen Choice Awards held in Abuja, Nigeria. He rose to prominence in 2016 after M.I released a re-fix of his song "The Box"under his mixtape Illegal Music 3: The Finale. In 2018, OkayAfrica ranked his song "Space" & "Sugardaddy" fourth on its list of "13 Best Nigerian Songs of the Month" in September 2018. His song "Sugardaddy" made the list of OkayAfrica's Best Nigerian Songs of 2018.In 2016, Pulse Nigeria named him one of the top seven Nigerian SoundCloud artiste you need to know and listed his name on part of the five Soundcloud artistes you need to pay attention to in 2018. Tay Iwar was born in Lagos and raised in Lagos & Abuja to a Nigerian parents. He is a native of the Tiv people of Nigeria. He started playing the guitar at age 13 before making music a career choice. According to his Ted talk in 2015, he was introduced to FL Studio and started producing his own music in SS1 and co-founded the "Bantu Collective" alongside his brothers Terna Iwar and Suté Iwar. Tay released his first EP "Passport" in 2014 under Bantu. The record that led him to the spotlight was "Equestrian Love"and "Wuse II". Tay Iwar was involved in A Study On Self Worth: Yxng Dxnzl by M.I as a co-producer and mix engineer of the album and was also a featured artist alongside Odunsi (The Engine), Lady Donli, Cina Soul and Niyola. On 26 January 2018, he release his first song under Universal Music Group titled "Video Star". Tay later released a single titled "1997" off his debut album Gemini with Soulection featuring Preyé, Santi and Odunsi (The Engine) on 26 August 2018. In 2019 Tidal and Soulection come together to introduce a new visual series that embodies discovery, emotions and storytelling using the song 'SPACE" as the first in the series.
