About GT Da Guitarman
GT Da Guitarman born in 1984 into the family of Mr. and Mrs Akigbogun in East Dulwich, London,UK where we spent some years before leaving for Nigeria I did my Primary and secondary school education at community primary school, mile 2,lagos and Mayflower secondary school,Ikenne respectively.Am currently studying Economics at The Lagos State University(lasu). Growing up was cool until that fateful day, when I got back from school and found out that Dads not at home yet,I asked Mum,were he was,But she told me he has traveled, while the truth of the matter is that-Dad he Abandoned us. Mum had to work harder than she used to,which made it difficult for me to have "that" relationship her as she would leave home everyday as early as 6:30am and gets home as late as 9:pm,which gives me the time to do whatever i want, but Instead of spending my time and energy doing the wrong things,I decided to engage in a more productive vocation.I fell in love with music.I was about 11-12,when my sister opeyemi, who was a chorister ,will bring song they were thought home and we will sing them together, basically just having fun. A couple of people actually told us that we could makea Good team.I joined a couple of groups-at least six, though they were not famous, but we performed at different churches and they served as a stepping stone to where i am right now. I picked up interest in the guitar,in the year 2003 when I saw a guy(Brother John)playing the guitar,it was like heaven. I approached him,and told him I want to learn how to play the instrument but he told me to get a guitar first, before we can discuss tutorial fees. Then, a small Guitar goes for 5,000 naira, so I started saving and I haven't even made it half way through before mum started suspecting if am sick, cos I grew thinner, fortunately, seeing how desperate I was,a friend of mine samuel offered me his Guitar, and then came another problem-getting the tuition fees, couldn't get it so I started learning on my own,i read everything that I could lay my hands on about the guitar, surfed the web for infos on the guitar. And again, seeing how serious I was john gave me his guitar, I kept breathing music to the point where I discovered that almost all the document i ve been keeping were all on music and could not find my O level results. lol.In short notting else mattered. In 2005, a friend of mine's brother(yak-oboh) who is a lecturer, comedian and a show organizer instructed his brother to paste posters for his up coming show, set to hold on vals day,he asked me for assistance and he posted it together. After pasting the posters I begged him to tell his brother about me and we fixed a meeting, I played for him and immediately he told me am on the show.At the show I performed and the response to my music was unbelievable,a comedian(Omobaba no 1) approached me,gave me his card and we hooked up,he took me to different shows and I started reaping from music bit by bit.Same year a friend who I take on guitar lessons knocked my door and told me to dress up that he wants to introduce me to Dare,at first i thought hewas just kidding but he didn't look like he was joking.I jumped up in excitement, picked up my guitar and I was set. He was asleep when I got there but I met his friends and brothers,I played for them and they loved my Music, finally he woke up and listened to my songs and picked up his phone ,called storm and arranged a meeting on my behalf,he actually told me that am the first person he will be doing that for.I met with the Chairman of storm media group,Obi Asika himself and after singing the first song,he told me welcome to storm records.Signed to storm records on the 17th of july, 2005. I, once the black sheep of the family, cos mum once strongly disagreed with my involvement in music, she used to think its for irresponsible pips now receives blessings from mum before each show and every night. Thanks to Yak-Oboh ,the guy who put me in my first real show ever, thanks to Omobaba no 1,the road would have been worse without you, thanks to Dare you are indeed a big brother and thank you to Storm records, you gave me a voice,I look forward to running more things with you guys.Thank you Jesus. To my Dad I guess i made it without you, hope you are proud of your son now. I guess my life is an attestation of the fact that Dreams Do Come True Trying to tell you how many shows have performed at is like writing a though exam,i wont be able to remember all.as i have performed in clubs, churches, burrials, weddings, seminars ,awards.nevertheless i will try and mention a few that comes to mind.Nites of a thousand Laughs 2005 in abuja,Laffs and jamz,Big brother Nigeria(both eviction parties and the eviction proper),club Nhuru in South-Africa,MTN home coming 2006,Orang Bash,Rhythm Unplugged 2006,Silverbird Man Of The Year Awards,The Future Awards 2006,Dance for Life,Storm 45,Against All Odds,Sound City. currently my video of the song dreamer is getting enough attention from the media.its recieving heavy rotations on nigerian stations, channel o and mtv base.no be God?
